The engineers and technicians on staff at A&S Composites Engineering have years of dedicated experience engineering and manufacturing products with composite materials.
Alastair Komus is a Professional Engineer with fifteen years experience in the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of composite and metallic structures for a wide variety of industries. He previously led an analysis team where he performed structural, thermal, modal, buckling, and non-linear analyses, developed and implemented analysis procedures and company standards, and supervised junior staff. During that time he helped to design many composite products that are now in production. He also has experience specifying and performing testing, and interpreting results.
Alastair also has extensive experience as a project manager responsible for budgeting, scheduling, contract negotiation, and building client relations. Alastair has B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, and a M.Sc in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota. During his academic studies he completed theses on composite material fatigue prediction and the outgassing of composite materials in outer space.
Steve Crouch is a Professional Engineer who has worked in the composites industry since 2004. During this time he has specialized in design for manufacture, material and process selection, and manufacturing support. He has a background in the aerospace industry with a strong understanding of new product development, validation, and certification practices. Steve has performed the role as a project manager for the past 15 years, and led multi-partner collaborative R&D projects for a consortium of aerospace companies for the past 8 years.
Steve previously led a design team focused on design for manufacture of composite and hybrid structures across a number of industrial sectors. He has also acted as a project lead for new product and capability development activities including part design, structural analysis, identification of facility requirements, process specification development, and quality control procedures. Through this he gained hands-on manufacturing experience while supporting first-article and low-rate fabrication activities. Steve has also attended a number of training courses on topics including composite aircraft certification, design allowables generation, and design of bonded and bolted connections.
